Two fashion grandees - designers Giorgio Armani and Karl Lagerfeld - have employed very different tactics for their holiday wardrobes. As both touched down in St Tropez over the weekend, we saw how the old school do vacay-chic.
In simple navy chino shorts, a fine white tee and rope handle bag, Giorgio stepped on to a yacht working nautical style with aplomb.
Conversely Monsieur Lagerfeld- who traditionally favours a more hard-core holiday look - refused to concede a single centimetre of his tab collar shirt to the raging heat. Wearing his trademark black skinny suit and tie, Karl strolled the cobbled St Tropez streets popping into a newsagent for a couple of gossip mags (Karl obviously leaves the highbrow reading for the work week). This man quite clearly does no sweat like the rest of us mere mortals.
Surveying Karl’s entourage we were also struck by Karl’s adorable godson and his OMG cuteness t-shirt emblazoned with fashion’s most famous feline – Choupette. As avid Grazidaily readers will know, we here at Grazia HQ are Choupette stalkers par excellence. Last week we reported how Karl’s cat had inspired an entire collection and that a Choupette bag was to be released next season, so now we are dying to see if the ‘Coco Cat Choupette’ tee goes into production – we predict a sell-out if so.
So which tactic do you favour – a total rejection of comfort in favour of keeping up your trademark look a la Karl, or super simple, non-pretentious styling just like Giorgio? We have to say, we bow down to the fashion-fabulousness of the septuagenarian holiday-makers – if we make 78 we just hope we haven’t given into the cruising uniform of tourist t-shirts and bumbags!
