Fashion Recap: Olympics kerfluffle; Neiman’s x Target; Banana x Virgin 17-07-2012

Whoa, this past week shaped up to be the department store-high-low- collaboration showdown.Neiman Marcus first announced their holiday partnership with Target. Meanwhile, Nordstromannounced their collaboration with Topshop. The collaboration ante has been elevated big time.(NM Daily)

Ralph Lauren is under some scrutiny for manufacturing its U.S. Olympics uniforms in China. According to USA Today, Sen. Bernie Sanders said foreign-made uniforms are unpatriotic. But according to the New York Times, uniforms have been made overseas or in Canada for more than a decade. Lauren, however, pledges to make 2014 uniforms in the USA. (NY Times)

Is the cosmetic industry trying to tap women’s nostalgia, or are they desperately appealing to younger audience with its recent launch from MAC Cosmetics with Archie Comics and Sephora with Disney? Let’s grow up, shall we? I’m not interested in having a cartoon character on my compact. It’s bad enough that I carry a Hello Kitty wallet. (NY Daily News)


  • As if Virgin America flight attendants aren’t chic enough, Banana Republic has designed uniforms for the airline’s 2000 teammates, pilots, and in-flight cabin crew according to press release. The revamped look takes flight Aug. 8 and if you want in on the all the chic-ness, you can also purchase aviator sunglasses, trench coats and tote bags in-flight using the entertainment system.(Fashionista)
